Lee contributed to advancing printmaking as an art form in korea and was a core founding member of the korean printing association in 1958. In 1959, his lithograph dajeongbulsim (compassion) won an award in the international biennial printing, organized by the cincinnati art museum. As the field grew over the next decade, a number of korean printmakers saw their work gain international attention, and by the 1980s, printmaking had become an important genre of korean art. Lee held a number of solo exhibitions in Manila and Taipei (1960); seoul (1962, 1970, 1972, 1975); Stockholm, Paris, and New York (1974); and in vienna and paris (1977). His work was also included in group exhibitions internationally. The work is held in the collections of the gothenburg museum of art, the National Library of France, the bonn town hall, the saarbrücken town hall, and the koreas national museum of modern and contemporary art.
